Motorista
Scott Calmeise aka "Motorísta" has been training Capoeira since 2016. In 2026, he began assisting with classes at Capoeira Brasil Cincinnati. With a background in Karate, he utilizes a technical mindset in discipline and repetition when performing Capoeira fundamentals.
Motorísta believes conditioning is essential to the art, and he designs his training around cardio at an intensity matched to the students, pushing each class to grow without leaving anyone behind.
Outside of class, Scott is a Quality Control Chemist and a Film Actor. He performs with other Capoeira Brasil Cincinnati members at events celebrating African, Brazilian, and Latin heritage, sharing the beauty and history of Capoeira with the community.
Sonic
Deb Wang aka “Sonic” began training capoeira in 2013. Her formative capoeira years were spent in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia before life brought her to Cincinnati in 2020.
Sonic enjoys helping others achieve more with their bodies than they thought possible, and believes that joy is what sustains intensity. She is committed to fostering a learning environment of rigor, vulnerability, and community uplift.
Outside of capoeira, Sonic makes time for boxing, reading, and community organizing.
Santo
Professor Anthony “Santo” Domingo is the Head Instructor of Capoeira Brasil Ohio (CBOH) and oversees programs in Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. With over 20 years of Capoeira experience, Santo has built high-quality programs that teach technique, tradition, and the value of community to students of all ages. Capoeira Brasil Cincinnati is part of this network, led by local instructors under Santo’s guidance.
Santo is also a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the Owner & Head Instructor at VIA MARTIAL ARTS in Solon OH, where he continues to teach and mentor students in both Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His training philosophy focuses on safety, technical proficiency, and a solid work ethic.
